C.A.S.A. 2111 Versión de Transporte
Modelling a C.A.S.A. 2111 Utility Version
(MONOGRAM 1/48)

El avión que muestro en este artículo es un C.A.S.A 2111 en su versión de transporte de Estado Mayor o estafeta. Me encanta el Heinkel 111, y en principio pensaba hacerlo alemán. Sin embargo,  posteriormente decidí montar la versión española. Buscando información, ví los aparatos con motores Merlin y entre sus variantes me gustó especialmente la de transporte. Estudié las posibilidades y me decidí a afrontar el reto. Este fue el proceso y el resultado.

The model I show in this article is a Spanish C.A.S.A. 2111 in its High Command or airmail transport version. I really like the Heinkel 111, and at first I wanted to build it as a German bomber. On second thoughts, I decided to build the Spanish version. Looking for reference about it, I especially liked the utility version with Merlin engines. I studied the chances to build it with the Monogram kit and made my mind up to face the challenge. This was the process and the result.
 

Fusejaje e interiores - Fuselage and interior

Primeras modificaciones, con las diferencias entre el fuselaje alemán y el español.

First modifications showing the differences between the original German fuselage and the Spanish one.

1) Monogram 1/48 DC-3 seat.
2)
Final scratchbuilt seat. Each one consists of 14 parts made with Evergreen, Milliput putty and tin.

Equipment.
The belts have random shapes on each seat.

Según los planos, el avión consta de dos butacas en la primera sección y de seis en la segunda.
1) Dos butacas, utillaje y equipos. 2) Área de pasaje. Seis butacas. 3) Porta-equipajes y aseo.

The aircraft has, according to the plans, two seats in the first section and six in the second one.
1) Two seats, equipment and tools. 2) Passengers area. Six seats. 3) Luggage and toilet.

Toilet door and bulkhead. I also added the pipeline once these parts were painted.

First-aid kit and knapsacks.

Fusejaje exterior - Finishing the fuselage

El encaje de las dos mitades es algo tedioso, pues además de que las mamparas interiores tienen que coincidir, el ajuste de ambas piezas es malo, por ello hube de emplear bastante masilla.

he fitting of the fuselage halves is rather difficult as the bulkheads have to match on both sides, so I had to use a lot of putty.

The underside is even more difficult to do. The bomb bay and the ventral gun station were removed and filled.

The windows step by step:

1) Window space.
2) Cover the hollow with masking tape.
3) Cut the tape.
4) Hollow it up.

5) Clear Evergreen sheet.
6) Mark the window space.
7) Cut the window.
8) Window pane.
9) Check fitting.
10) Glue and seal.

1) The kit part belongs to the Luftwaffe bomber version with gunner front station and floor.
2) Modified part. I cut the the clear tip and flattened it.

The area in red was fully sanded and polished since all the nose in the CASA was transparent.

A view  of both noses. The CASA clear part was later added a round piece of plastic to cover the German gun station.

Fuselage top clear panels. Monogram clear parts are thick and fragile, so I had to be very careful when cutting them to show them open, as they are easily cracked or scratched.

Ya con el fuselaje cerrado y el morro colocado, este es el aspecto que iba teniendo. El rectángulo kaki que se ve a través del transparente es una especie de cortinilla que llevaba en la cabina.

his is the result after closing the fuselage. The khaki rectangle under the clear part is a small thin curtain which was used in the cockpit.

Pintura- Painting

Con Autocad hice el diseño de las máscaras para la matrícula del avión, y las escarapelas con un cutter circular. Sobre papel pegatina transparente imprimí los patrones, los recorté y pegué en la superficie. Luego sólo queda aerografiar.

I
made the design of the Spanish markings and numbers using Autocad, and the big roundels with a compass cutter. I printed the patterns on a transparent decal sheet, cut and applied them. Finally, I airbrushed them.

A) Original German gear.
B) Modified Spanish gear.

1) German radial tread pattern.
2) Spanish square tread pattern.

El tren de aterrizaje es igual al modelo germano excepto en el dibujo de las ruedas y en la protecciones de los amortiguadores que el modelo español no llevaba.

The landing gear was the same as in the German He 111 except for the tread pattern of the tyres and the spring covers which were not used in the Spanish version.

La puerta de acceso al avión procede de un DC-3 de pasajeros de Monogram, que rectifiqué para que encajase en el hueco. Por el exterior le añadí la parte final de la raíz del ala (pieza que guardé desde el principio para este cometido), y parte de la articulación superior. Por dentro le hice la estructura interior y la cerradura con plástico. Los picaportes los añadí más tarde.

he fuselage door came from a Monogram DC-3 liner which I modified to fit in the model. Outside I added the tip of the wing trailing edge (a part which I had kept for this), and a section of the upper hinge. Inside I scratchbuilt the interior and the lock with plastic strips. The handles were added later.
